ORION, Mich., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Cobasys today confirmed the latest expansion of its headquarters to facilitate additional advanced battery system development. Already acknowledged as one of the world's largest testing facilities for battery systems, the addition in Orion, Michigan will enable Cobasys to build upon its leadership position for energy storage systems integration.

The 18,860 square foot addition represents the company's third expansion since moving into the facility in January 2005. The additional square footage will allow Cobasys to increase its Nickel Metal Hydride and lithium-based development activities as it assesses several leading lithium technologies.

Cobasys is the only North American manufacturer supplying NiMH battery systems for HEV applications. Its NiMHax(R) brand products are becoming recognized around the world. Cobasys has previously announced contract awards to supply advanced battery system solutions for seven major hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) production programs and one development program. These include providing battery systems for the Saturn Vue Green Line, Saturn Aura Green Line, the Chevrolet Malibu hybrid and a contract to develop lithium battery systems for the new General Motors plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) development program.
"The expansion of our testing center coupled with our efforts with leading lithium technologies enables customers to choose from our proven NiMH systems and evaluate a variety of lithium-ion solutions," stated Thomas S. Neslage, President and CEO. "The industry has come to view Cobasys as a world-class integrated energy storage system supplier for fuel efficient vehicles."

"We are uniquely positioned to offer OEMs and integrators enhanced battery system solutions to power future generations of HEVs using the chemistry of their choice," said Scott Lindholm, VP-Sales and Systems Engineering at Cobasys.

The Cobasys headquarters is the center for all of its research, module development, systems development, prototype build and administration activities. Completion for expansion is slated for July 2007.
